This hat is called "Torioi", meaning chasing birds. 
It is a traditional straw hat worn by samurai during falconry (takagari) or bird-chasing activities. This hat helped protect the wearer from the sun while allowing them to move freely during the hunt.
Today, you can still see this style of hat in use during yabusame (traditional horseback archery) performances, where the attire reflects the elegance of Japan’s warrior past.
