I recently enjoyed a cozy dinner with my friends’ family visiting from Germany.
They are a sweet Spanish couple with their children, and my Japanese friend who married a German man.
During their vacation in Japan, I prepared some handmade gifts for them.
For the parents, I prepared a set of couple’s chopsticks with matching HashiWraps.
For their boys, I chose a playful fabric printed with the names of JR train stations in Tokyo.
I had always loved this fabric, but it was a tricky design to sell – so I saved it for something special.
Each HashiWrap was embroidered with the boys’ names, making these gifts truly one of a kind.
I felt a little nervous when I handed them the gifts, wondering if they would like them.
But when I saw their bright smiles, my heart was filled with relief and happiness.
Handmade gifts always carry a piece of my heart, and I’m so glad they could feel that.
I was also happy to use a little Spanish during our dinner—
I’ve been learning it on Duolingo for about three years,
so it felt special to connect with them in their language, even just a little.
